MEMORIES OF YEARS AGO AT ALAMO VILLAGE

Willie Nelson came, for a few days in 1983, to film a video for HBO, promoting a song. Sherry got to be in the video, driving an undertaker carriage. My part in this video (not in front of the camera) involved a wheelbarrow, a shovel, and keeping an eye on horses. I have a lot more fun memories and pictures of things that happened at Alamo Village in 1982 and 1983, and of a lot of fun things that have happened since then. Someday, I may put them up here on this web site too. But right now is also a fun time. And pictures, recordings, and making fun memories with the Spring River Valley Band is where I would like to focus.

BACK TO NOW AND THE FUTURE Jim Ostrander and I made music together in junior high school (1974-1976). David Smith, Jim Ostrander, Tom Blake, and I have been making music together since 1996, developing the Spring River Valley Band. Sara Montgomery has been, occasionally, making music with us since 1998. Carl Erdmann started playing percussion with us in October 2005. Saddy Chavez started playing with us (filling in for Jim) in 2005. Clayton Burrows started playing with us (filling in for David) in June 2006. Gus Lopez started playing percussion with us (filling in for Carl) in July 2006. Terry Todd and I made music together for a couple of years (1984-1985) in college. Terry joined the Spring River Valley Band in August 2006. Myles Erdmann started playing with us on December 15, 2006. Masa Ikeda has played with us, occasionally, since October 2005. I call it music, but some folks need a more precise definition. So, after several meetings of minds with thorough discussions, and with years of research, it has been determined that we play some folk music, some bluegrass music, some country & western music, some rock & roll music, some jazz music, some blues, some gospel music, some contemporary music, and some easy listening music; and not always in that order. We have a lot of harmony and fancy picking. I have noticed that, when the Spring River Valley Band is playing, folks are smiling, singing along, walking funny, and dancing around. And when we are done playing, folks, ages 2 to 102, express excited feelings of happiness about the band.
