Placitas Mountain Band

  Bluegrass and Old Time Music

A couple of amateur musicians got together in Placitas, just to have some fun, practice and play together, and the Placitas Mountain Band was born. The band has even added a few Albuquerque musicians to the group to round it out. The Placitas Mountain Band plays monthly, the first Saturday of each month from noon until 2:00 p.m. at the Piñon Café in Placitas. In 2005, the group opened for Merle Haggard at the OhKay Casino in Española, and played for the Tricentennial Parade in Balloon Park and a Tricentennial concert at the KiMo Theatre. Additionally, the Placitas Mountain Band has played at the NM State Fair numerous times, UN day at UNM, at the Sunport in ABQ, and many private parties and political rallies. They continue to donate their time to play bluegrass and old-time music to residents at local senior citizen centers and churches. The photo was taken at their Sunport gig in November 2005.
