MUSIC UNDER THE STARS MAY 4, 2006

The first Thursday night kicked off with three Ovations, a Martin, and an Ibanez acoustic bass, and excellent vocalists and the night turned into magic.

Cuick Gonzales:  He performed perfect precision on his ax with just the right attack.  Cuick's voice was one of the many highlights.

Frank McKinnon:  Frank kept a solid rhythm with back up vocals to carry the tightness of all the vocals to its zenith.

Jim Kisselburg:  Jim stayed right in the pocket just at the right times with smooth and accurate counting, and with what I would describe as a huge, round bass sound.
Andres de Gutierrez (Andy):  He plays an awesome harmonica.  He often plays with Doc Meeks in the Phatso (Fatso) Jazz, Blues, and Swing Band.  The Spring River Valley Band enjoys having him around.  His passion for having fun while making good music is contagious.   He has been a professional writer for a long time, and has accomplished a good deal with his writing.  I admire his ability to describe phenomena that occur while good music is being made, and I have asked him to help me describe MUSIC UNDER THE STARS as it progresses.  The captions in these reviews are written by him, unless my name is inserted as it is in this caption.

Cheryl Patterson:  To compare her dulcet, dynamic with R[eb]a McInt[i]re would be unfair--NO COMPARISON.  Sorry, R[eb]a! Cheryl arrived.

David Smith:  Dave's lines were so melodic that they accentuated the rhythm section to perfection.

Dr. Terry Todd:  Dr. Todd wrote a poignant song entitled "God Bless America," about 9-11 which spoke of the courage and power of our nation under adversity.  He later told me that he admired the writings of James Taylor and Allen Jackson.

Tom Blake:  His harmonies were like having icing on cake.

In the end, the audience was given a generous gift for everyone that unit's gift of music.
